Okamura Sylphy Chair
From its inception, Sylphy was envisioned as a chair designed to provide immediate comfort upon use. While maintaining high standards of performance and structural integrity remained paramount, the objective extended to offering this comfort at an economical and practical price, ensuring the chair could authentically integrate into daily professional environments.
Throughout the design process, the development team questioned a conventional principle in task seating: that modifications limited to height and seat depth adjustment were sufficient. Through comprehensive investigation, Okamura identified considerable diversity in the anatomical structure of individuals' spinal columns and torso proportions, variations that standard backrest designs proved inadequate in addressing.
Rather than engineering for a theoretical "average" user, the team prioritized adaptability. This approach culminated in Sylphy's signature Back Curve Adjustment mechanism, which permits users to fine-tune the backrest's curvature to align with their individual physiology and preferred sitting posture.
